 "Buyer beware" 2009-08-27
By Dumas (Canada)
The Global Marketplace doesn't apply to the world of E-books, Amazon, and the Kindle experience. We are Canadian and recently purchased a Kindle DX and had it shipped to a U.S relative and are now horrified that technology is not supported once back in our home country. A bit pissed that that information wasn't provided via the website, although my Canadian Credit card was eagerly accepted without question and my Kindle is registered with my Canadian email address. Maybe this is how the Canadian Media moguls plan to prop up the struggling newspaper and print industries. Product looks exceptional though and am considering applying for green card.

"Whole new experience for me" 2009-08-26
By E. P. Avalos (Mexico City)
This is my first encounter with any electronic reading device. I must say I wasn't sure of what to expect from it. Considering that I work in front of my computer for a good amount of hours, I did hesitate wondering if buying it was a good idea for me or not. What first brought my attention is the non-reflective screen, with this thing with a cute name: e-ink. I also found out that other devices have the same -or similar- feature. Other things that I consider important in this Kindle DX vs. others are: capacity, large screen, text-to-speech feature, compatible formats, connectivity, accelerometer included (change between landscape and portrait). All of these -and a little bit of bravery... and savings- over weighted the price, so, here I am. But, am I happy? Well, so far, so good. I'm studying a master's degree, and it made me very happy to get one of the text books I needed pretty much immediately. So, in terms of time invested, it is more than I expected. I still have the whole reading experience to get used to (never read an ebook before), but I'm sure at the end of the day the balance will be favorable.

"Would give it a 0 if possible" 2009-08-26
By STOAK (Anchorage, AK United States)
I was reading a book and the entire contents of the kindle were erased. All my pdfs, all my books. Only thing left is the users guide. It did not even power down - just erased them in front of my eyes. Unfortuneately I am in another country on vacation and now have to go find a store that sells english books. My wife had the same thing happen on her kindle2.

On top of that the battery life is about half of what is claimed. My wife has a kindle 2 and its battery life is about 1/4 what is claimed. The idea of the kindle is a great one. I loved having all my books and pdfs with me but his product is not ready nor what amazon claims as far as I can tell. At the very least do not plan on taking this on vacation.

 "Take the Leap" 2009-08-25
By John E. Huett (Comanche,Texas)
Having purchased over 200 items from Amazon, mostly books, I have never felt inspired to comment on a particular product one way or the other. I have had my Kendle DX about a week and a comment is mandatory. After reading all the comments about it doesn't do this and it doesn't do that, it seems to like this is like looking a gift horse in the mouth. This is a really unique piece of technology. To me, the fact that you can download a book or magazine in less than a minute instead of having to order a book and then wait 5 to 7 days to receive it, makes the purchase worthwhile in and of itself even if you had to pay full price for the book not to mention the fact that if you are interested in having the definition of any word that comes along immediately, which I am, then this is a godsend. There are somethings in life you just can't justify on a price basis. Ask anyone who has paid [...]for a golf cart and they will tell you they could have rented one for about [...] they just wanted their own. If you like to read then buy this product I can promise you a 100 years from now, it won't make any difference.

"I love saving the paper and trees." 2009-08-25
By Linda Rex (Michigan)
We love our new Kindle. It works like a charm. The newspaper shows up everyday, wirelessly. The print is easier to read than the newspaper. I don't have to take out the 20 lbs of unwanted ads every Sunday to the recycle bin!
