"great product out of technology" 2009-11-03

I like it despite that I am not crazy about electronics. My daughter loves it. She is using it more

than I do. She wants to own it.

 "Love the Kindle" 2009-11-03

I fought this for a long time, but finally decided to give it a try. And while there are definitely details I would change now that I have used it a bit - I love the concept and will use it often.

I especially like the size, the weight and how handy the home page is to navigate. I like that I can shut it down and come right back to it in seconds and that I can search for, write notes and get the definition of words. It is an amazing tool. Very intuitive.

What would I change? I think the keyboard is poor technology. It is hard to hit the buttons and easy to miss type. So it is not something I will do a lot, unfortunately, If it was easier, I would probably use it a lot.

The forward button needs to be lower and I would put the toggle and menu up higher. You don't use those that much - so why have them at the bottom of the Kindle which is where most of the reading action takes place.

For the life of me, I can't intuitively figure out how to archive a book I have read. It would be nice if the Kindle had a USB port so I could off load books to a back up drive and not worry about keeping them on the Kindle. If it crashes - or has to be repaired - I am up a creek unless I have a backup.

I would make all the major keystrokes work through the toggle and a popup. You have to learn the ropes with the Kindle and it takes some time. But worth the effort.

Definitely a 4 star - but I am an easy grader - so I am giving 5 stars because I like it so much.

 "Another awesome reader" 2009-11-02
By Julie McIntosh (Camarillo, CA)
This is our second Kindle, bought this one for my husband mainly for the Wall Street Journal. They raised their subscription prices so much over the last couple of years (doubled) that we figured it'd only take two years for this to pay for itself over the print edition. No more calling them, almost monthly, that our paper wasn't delivered...again! It's also nice to be able to download books onto both devices.
