 "Kindle DX" 2009-11-11
By P. Sheeran
I have had the DX for 30+ days now and completed one book. I like the way I was able to set the font size to suit my likes. I find this way I read faster. I did notice some slight errors in the scanning of the book and also on the book I am now reading. Errors of words missing or words repeated and some inapproprate spacing within words. Barring this slight transcription problem, I really like the DX due to it's size and ease of handling.

 "My Magical Tablet" 2009-11-11

I adore this product. It's everything I had hoped it would be and more. No more hunting through the house for the book I want to read. No more dog earing pages because I don't have enough bookmarks. No more waiting days to get to the bookstore to buy a book I want to read.

It's like having a magical tablet.

 "Kindle's my new BFF" 2009-11-10

I am ultra happy with my new Kindle DX. I'm reading all the time now, which is TV's loss. I notice I read faster, probably because page turning is just a click. Downloading is a second. It's great to read the NEW YORK TIMES, especially the Entertaimaint section without having to wade through pages of ads. The telephone help-line has helped me the 3 times I couldn't figure something out myself(the Kindle User's Guide has a lot of flaws!)Reading is fun again!

 "Kindle DX "Read on"." 2009-11-10

I originally purchased the first edition Kindle; it was great but the small screen and my not so good eyes didn't get along. I upgraded to the DX and love it. It travels in my brief case or my backpack wherever I go. I am in the process of retiring and will live in and travel by RV. It does not have a lot of room for my extensive book collection. Luckily, many of my favorite books are available in the Kindle version so they can conveniently travel with me.

The DX is a little heavy for bed time reading but is a great laptop and tabletop reader.

"Great, but still a Work In Progress." 2009-11-10
By Josiah Ethington (Everett, WA)
I purchased the amazon kindle DX as soon as it came out, and I have been very happy with it. I currently have over 100 novels on it (most of which I got for free!) and have enjoyed it immensly. The battery life is super(up to 2 wks with the wireless off). The screen is easy to read, its light and very portable, quite durable (I've been rather hard on it, and no problems yet).

but to the cons - My major complaint is that there isnt much of a way to sort the titles you have on the kindle - you can't organize them however you want, you can only sort by title, author, or which ones you've read or added most recently.

As far as the expiramental features - the web browser is neat, but its quite slow at loading pages, and drains the battery at a tremendous rate (only a couple of hours will deplete it entirely). Mostly usefull for looking stuff up on wikipedia (which i think is an awesome feature).

The MP3 player - Good speakers, adequate volume, but not having any control whatsoever over what plays, except for a skip track function that you have to push 2 buttons at the same time for? Might as well have just left that out, almost...you can't even see what music you have loaded on your kindle unless its plugged into a comp via usb port.

The TTS system (text to speech) - Is not supported by many authors, and has some problems with pauses, like, it doesnt pause as much between paragraphs as it does between sentences (or even as much as other words sometimes).

Other than those, I really love my kindle, and once those are fixed (which I personally think should be possible via a firmware update...but that may be too much to hope for) I'd give it 5 starts, but for now, 4 is all it gets.
