I like the way it holds the kindle. I think it will offer fine protection. I like reading the kindle WITHOUT a case.

Still, I expected it to be a little nicer.

I'd probably buy it again.

"Sturdy Convenient Protection for DX" 2009-08-17
By Roy Lynn Godkin (Beaumont, Texas United States)
I purchased the OCTO Faux Leather Slip for my new DX and I am as happy as can be. The DX fit is snug enough to be protective and still allow easy access. I am not interested in attracting a lot of attention to this expensive device and this cover looks like a lot of other leather holders. I have enjoyed being able to sit my DX on top of the cover when at a fast food restaurant which protects it from moisture and food. I leave the keyboard side to the opening allowing me to charge the DX and/or link it to my computer without removing it from the OCTO. Some have complained about an odor. Yep, it takes a few hours for the odor to go away, but don't let that small issue derail your consideration of this cover. Any new belting leather (which this isn't) or regular finish leather (which this might be) can have a similar odor. It is study, it is convenient, it protects the DX and the price is about right.

 "Surprisingly impressed" 2009-08-06
By LYos (OC, CA)
This cover didn't have a horrible smell like others have. My kindle is snug inside and doesn't slide out on its own yet smoothly pulls out. It's slim and doesn't add much to the size so I can slip it into my purse or tote with ease. It looks good too. I half expected it to look like cheap "pleather" but was pleasantly surprised. it doesn't protect my kindle as i read it since i have to remove the cover completely as i read but for storage when it's not in use it's great.

"Very good at what it does" 2009-08-02
By Jason M. Hendon (Florida)
This case isn't as advance as the book cover looking ones. It doesn't attach to the kindle in anyways, its simply something to slide it into for basic protection. If thats what you want, then this is perfect. It feels solid and I am pretty sure it would help protect your kindle if you dropped it while in the slip, though I had no interest in testing this. The color is pretty decent, its not bad to look at and it doesn't look cheap like some others do. The logo from the company is hard to see to so its not to bad.

Its a cheap, and effective cover for your kindle. If you just want a simple cover and dont mind touching your kindle then this is a pretty good option for you.

"Amazing case; should have shipped with the Kindle DX" 2009-07-16
By Doug201 (New York City, NY)
This case is spectacularly good. It is very sturdy, and holds the Kindle DX firmly so that it does not slide out accidentally, yet it is lined with a very soft material that looks to be padded where the screen touches it. The case is not much larger than the Kindle and it does not add any appreciable bulk. I don't go anywhere without this case since receiving it.

I think the case was worth its price, in peace of mind. I still think the price, however, is giving the manufacturer an enormous margin, though, and could stand to be reduced.

Others have remarked that the case smelled. While I noticed this the first day I had the case, within a day or two there was no more odor. It had something of the "new car smell" to it, and I did not find it unpleasant. I would not avoid purchasing this wonderful case for fear of any odor.

My only complaint is that I would have preferred a black version, instead of a brown one.

 "Can break your Kindle" 2009-09-29
By Stanley Grant (Seattle, WA USA)
I would not recommend using this cover. It has many pros, but one BIG con. It can easily crack your case during normal use due to the way it attaches to the Kindle. Amazon provided exceptionally good customer service when it happened to me (had a replacement on my doorstep in the next day with no hassles), but the fact remains this case cracked my Kindle (I'm buying a different case for my replacement).

If you're dead set on using it, the pros of this case include the following:

The felt on the inside is very soft and will not scratch your Kindle

The exterior is lightweight, very nice to look at, and pleasant to carry

The case bends all the way back to get out of your way while reading

The Kindle is held securely, so it will not fall from the case (although this causes my con)

The cover is magnetized so that when you close it, it stays closed (but is easily opened with a tiny amount of pressure)

Overall, this could have been a great case. As it stands, I won't use it again. If the case held the Kindle in a better way, this case would be ideal. However, this $50 case breaking my $500 Kindle is unacceptable.

"Best cover for the DX" 2009-09-25
By B. Lewis (Colorado, USA)
I have now been using the cover for almost 2 months and I love it. Nearly perfect. The only flaw is that the Kindle is secured from the left side only and if the cover were to be accidentally opened backwards, the plastic on the face of the Kindle would crack/break. It seems that this could have been avoided with some corner elastic straps on the right side like the original Kindle's cover...

That being said, I still highly recommend this cover.

I do think that this case looks great, but because it doesn't have anything to keep it closed, it isn't as sturdy as I though it would be. The leather is nice, but it does not protect the sides and top of the kindle because it does not snap closed.

 "Absolutely Love It!" 2009-09-30
By Toni (New York)
I adore my Kindle DX. I was originally torn between the DX and the K2 because of size and weight, but ultimately I decided to go with the DX because I liked the idea of a bigger reading screen, and I loved the native PDF support.

And I haven't regretted it for a moment.

It works exactly as advertised, and I currently have 127 books on my kindle. I travel a LOT for work, so being able to take my entire library with me, and having the ability to get a new book when I'm done with the old one, no matter where I am, has been phenomenal. The selection of Kindle books is huge and growing, and I love that Amazon and publishers offer an ever-changing range of freebies. Granted, most of them are the first in a series, to try and entice you to buy the rest, but I've already discovered some new authors and series I never would have tried otherwise, so it's been a great way to expand my horizons a bit.

The one downside I know most of us worry about is the inability to share Kindle books. I don't have an exact solution for it, but I do have a suggestion. My mother has a K1, bought when they first came out, so we wanted to be able to share books back and forth. We discovered that, while you can't have a kindle registered to two accounts at the same time, you can de-register and register it to another account without any loss of what's already downloaded. So we switched accounts, downloaded one another's books - bought legitimately, and you can have books your purchased on more than one device legally! - then switched back to our own accounts. Now, if you delete it off your Kindle, you would have to go back to the other account to grab it again, and it's NOT a solution to try with someone you don't trust absolutely with access to your account, but for those of you who have a family member who owns a Kindle as well, it is one option for sharing that I thought I would share. Not ideal, but it's better than not being able to share at all. Also, I've read reports that some books have a limit imposed by the publishers as to how many devices any one book can be sent to, so it's not an unlimited option, but again, it is a way to share with a few other trusted people if that's what you're looking for.

Anyway, anyone out there on the fence about the Kindle - it really is fantastic. I'm an avid reader and book lover, and have been since I was a child. I don't miss paper copies at all, as my DX reads exactly like a paperback would, it's lighter, it's more portable, and it holds more than any paper book every could. I highly recommend it to any book lover!

 "Not For Lefties" 2009-09-28
By Seaside (Atlantic Highlands, NJ)
I own a Kindle 2 and love it. So, when the DX came out I was immediately interested. However, I will not buy it for one simple fact--it is not made for left-handed people. The page control buttons on the left hand side of my kindle 2--which I use constantly--have been entirely eliminated on the DX. All controls are now on the right hand side. I'd like to hear what the majority of right-handers would say if you moved all the controls to the left hand side. Get my point?

 "Works Great" 2009-09-28
By Bill A. Freeman (Sun City, AZ USA)
My Kindle is everything promised and much more. Since 9/05/09 I have bought twenty-one books and about ready to order nore. So fast & convenient.

My only complaint: Wish there could be a small paragraph about contents of book.

I do not like time-travel or vampires, etc.,along this line and have managed to get a few in my selections.

"Best Investment I have made" 2009-09-28
By Diane Spencer (Connecticut)
The Kindle DX is my first Kindle and I love it. I would have given it 5 stars but the one feature that would be perfect is missing. You cannot catorgorize your books. There is no way to set up file folders. Other than that I have had no problem with the reader. The large size, though a bit heavy when you read for hours as I do, can tire your hand, but the large screen is worth the small inconvience. Being able to use PDF files is a great advantage for me especially because I travel a lot. The web search and dictionary have also been a big assest.

It's ease of use and large storage capacity makes this perfect for me.
