 "Not For Lefties" 2009-09-28
By Seaside (Atlantic Highlands, NJ)
I own a Kindle 2 and love it. So, when the DX came out I was immediately interested. However, I will not buy it for one simple fact--it is not made for left-handed people. The page control buttons on the left hand side of my kindle 2--which I use constantly--have been entirely eliminated on the DX. All controls are now on the right hand side. I'd like to hear what the majority of right-handers would say if you moved all the controls to the left hand side. Get my point?

 "Works Great" 2009-09-28
By Bill A. Freeman (Sun City, AZ USA)
My Kindle is everything promised and much more. Since 9/05/09 I have bought twenty-one books and about ready to order nore. So fast & convenient.

My only complaint: Wish there could be a small paragraph about contents of book.

I do not like time-travel or vampires, etc.,along this line and have managed to get a few in my selections.

"Best Investment I have made" 2009-09-28
By Diane Spencer (Connecticut)
The Kindle DX is my first Kindle and I love it. I would have given it 5 stars but the one feature that would be perfect is missing. You cannot catorgorize your books. There is no way to set up file folders. Other than that I have had no problem with the reader. The large size, though a bit heavy when you read for hours as I do, can tire your hand, but the large screen is worth the small inconvience. Being able to use PDF files is a great advantage for me especially because I travel a lot. The web search and dictionary have also been a big assest.

It's ease of use and large storage capacity makes this perfect for me.

 "Such a Gem!" 2009-09-28
By P. F. Roby (Springfield, Oh USA)
I purchased my Kindle DX about a month ago. I love it! I have read at least 8 books since while working a job that takes as much as 70 hours per week of my time. I found that the leather portfolio style case is perfect for slipping in my purse and I take it everywhere. NO eyestrain! No heavy books to lug around! And the downloads are so slick. I don't have to run to the store to find the next book. My daughter-in-law recommended a book and I had it in the next minute. My son said I had to have a specific read, and I had it in the next minute. I have several more ready to start at my leasure. Everyone who sees it is envious instantly.

"Potential future market, especially among those living abroad." 2009-09-28
By Christian Lee (Seoul, Korea)
A couple friends at my church got me the Kindle DX as a gift. It's a wonderful product and here are my thoughts on it.

Great Points

1) Fast way to get the newest and out of prints books.

Working abroad in Korea, it takes weeks for me to order a book from the States. So being able to just purchase it on Amazon and transfer it to my Kindle is huge.

2) Clear text like reading off of paper.

The clarity of the text is truly amazing. I tried reading books on my iPod touch and the black text on the white background hurts my eyes after awhile. Not so with the Kindle.

3) Nice, thin, and portable.

The DX is beautiful, thin, and very portable. People look at it and immediately want one of their own because they just made this one look so nice!

Drawbacks:

1) Inconvenient keyboard.

The keyboard on the DX is poorly designed and in order to use it, I have to lay the DX flat on the ground, use my feet to hold it from moving, and then my fingers to type. It would be nice if more innovation was put into the keyboard. It really is a useless feature as of now.

2) Super super slow.

Although the DX has many wonderful features, it must be noted that it is painfully slow! When you click the "Next Page" button, it takes a good moment before it turns the page. Every button you press, the DX responds super slow. This discourages me from searching for text, flipping through the book to a particular page I'm looking for, and switching between different books I've purchased. It makes the whole reading experience very "linear". I really hope this improves in future versions because it is painfully 1970s slow right now. I've heard rumors that Apple may release a competitor for the Kindle. I hope they do because that's the only way that these products are gonna get better.

3) Whisper net not available outside U.S.

I am currently working in Korea and I travel often. Unfortunately, the whispernet wireless service for purchasing and receiving books is not available outside of the U.S. It would've been nice if the DX has a wifi feature. But then again, the device is so slow I don't know if I want to use it for browsing or purchasing books. Also, Amazon did not include instructions on how to get purchased books unto the Kindle. I had to figure it out on my own (hint: you have to copy the downloaded "azw" file into the Kindle's folder system). There were no help pages online that I could find. A bit unprofessional and inconsiderate of their customers as many Americans travel often.

All in all, I commend Amazon for making such a beautiful breakthrough product. Many other companies have tried to develop ebook readers but no one has been able to create a market for it like Amazon has.
