I don't own a kindle . I'm considering buying one but I have to say that of all the books to be secretly/remotely removed from the device I find it humorous that 1984 is one of them lol. the fact that books that you paid for can be removed from your device remotely and without your consent , quite frankly worries me . you buy a REAL book its yours to keep forever and read as many times as you like . what's going to happen if they ever start to provide reference books thru kindle ? one day you'll go to reference something and the book will be gone ? i'm going to have to seriously think this purchaee over. i read a lot .

I spent months reading everything I could find on Kindle and finally the DX. I ordered it, it arrived and worked exactly as promised. Didn't promise color, a touch screen or blue tooth. It delivered and does exactly what I want. I've orderd several books, read them, used bookmarks and the dictionary and pick up other functions as I move along.
I don't see myself buying another real book. Downside, I will most probably have to buy my wife one as I'll never set mine down long enough for her to share it. I'm very happy with this, if your a reader, this is the the thing to have. @ 10 seconds to download a book. Get a hard cover.

This is definitely a device of next generation. There are several good factors like its size, capacity and easiness of handling. The features that I would like to have so that I buy this device are
1) Ability to add my own memory card. SD or micro SD with support upto at least 128 GB.
2) Full HD 1920 x 1080 64 bit full color spectrum. I cannot imagine reading a book in just black and white. What age does this device belongs too without a color screen? A BIG shortcoming in my opinion
3) Full touch screen operations.
4) Wifi and blue tooth connectivity.
5) Ability to connect to a HDTV using HDMI or some other connectivity. I would like to read the book on big screen if I have one at my disposal.
The next set of features can be incorporated in subsequent generation. But the top 5 are must-have in next release.
6) Support for office tools like MS word/ PowerPoint to create my own notes/presentations/papers on the fly while reading. This will be a great feature for professionals, Professors, PhD students and even for executives.
7) Email and IM capability. I do not want go to my laptop just to check emails if I really want to finish reading something important. Communication is important even in solitudes these days and I should be able to communicate with such a device too.
8) Then why not have a 5mp camera to capture something I like on-the-go and annotate to something I am reading or add it to document I may be created while reading.
Hopefully I would see some of the above features soon so that I can get this gadget in my collection.

I was so happy when I received my Kindle DX. It was easy to get set up and start reading. It's a beautiful device, but it has many drawbacks. I decided to overlook these drawbacks, only to start experiencing glitches a few days after the return policy expired. Now I am awaiting an email or call back from Amazon customer service regarding these glitches.
First, the drawbacks:
1) No left-hand navigation. Even if you are right-handed, your right hand will fatigue from pressing the Next or Back Page buttons, and you will wish you can do this with the left hand. It's an ergonomic issue that needs to be addressed in the next rollout.
2) It's a very heavy device. It's sleek, but it's heavy. I usually have to support it on something after a few minutes. In my opinion, this does not simulate reading a paperback. (I never read hardcovers.)
3) No folders. Give me a break! What use is 3500 book capacity when it takes me 3500 seconds to find the book I want?
4) Don't rely on this device for any kind of internet capability.
5) The navigation knob is clunky, and the most adept reader will mistakenly scroll too far, not far enough, or onto another page entirely. It's a frustrating process.
6) Too much lagtime in opening a new book, turning on wireless, switching from Home Page to another page, etc. It isn't my memory; I have about ten books on my Kindle now that I was told to restart (to factory settings, thereby wiping out my list of books) due to the following .....
Now, the glitches that have arisen:
1) My "Most Recently Read" book will not appear first, but rather on the second or third page. I always have my books organized in this manner, so this is frustrating to no end. Sometimes, I will open up a book and it won't immediately go to the page where I left off. I have had to hunt around for several minutes before landing on the right page. Annoying!
2) I was told by an Amazon representative that this was a publisher's formatting decision, but my qualm still niggles me. For some books, clicking the joystick/main controller knob/navigator does not bring me to the previous or next chapters. I CAN'T SKIP FROM CHAPTER TO CHAPTER. I am appalled by this deficiency, regardless of whether or not Amazon Kindle is responsible for it. ALL books should be navigable by chapter. The usefulness of the Kindle, especially for textbooks, is rendered deficient. Amazon needs to streamline all publisher formatting. If they refuse to do this, they MUST let the consumer know about this deficiency PRIOR to purchasing the book. It is only fair. I do not want to purchase a book that would be more convenient in paper form.
I would wait for the next rollout, or see if and when competitors bring out a similar size e-reader. This is not worth $489.
