Bigger is better? In this case it really is. I like the screen size and I like the text to speech feature (I had a Kindle one). I really get a lot of attention when I read it in public and almost all are impressed when I let them check it out (especially the guy that took off down the street with it-I got it back, I live on a dead end and the guy had nowhere to go. And as soon as he gets out of jail I bet he will pick one up (he may even buy it).

I read PDF files most of which are technical in nature and/or with small font size. I had long waited for Kindle DX because it has native PDF support. Amazon has made such a good product with lots of bells and whistles but they did not pay attention to improving the PDF support.
What's wrong with the native PDF reader? It does not have the capability for text reflow (font size increasing) and zooming. Two very important features for PDF. Its may be bit difficult to implement the zooming because of lack of touch screen, but Amazon should come up with some way to do this.
I called Amazon's Kindle technical support group to know whether they have any plan to make the PDF support better. They have told me that they will going to open a ticket for this issue and will get back to me in a week. I was happy to know that they are concern about customer. But later they keep rescheduling it for several weeks and at the 29th day of my purchase I finally came to know that they will not going to implement the requested feature soon. So I was in rush to return it back to get the full refund (Return within 30 day cause full refund).
I now have Sony PRS-600. I have bought it two weeks back and I'm happy with it so far although it has smaller screen size than Kindle DX. But the features that I wanted (Text reflow and Zoom) are there.
For readers, who wants to read PDF documents, Kindle DX is simply not recommended.

I simply cannot live without it anymore. I've read many more books with it than I did before having one. Super convenient and comfortable. I have to warn you though, it's very, very fragile. I bought the amazon leather cover now after attesting it's fragility first hand, now I feel safer.

Got the Kindle DX before going to Italy last month. Picking the books I was interested in was fast and easy--there were a few I wanted which were not available. Not to carry 30 pounds of books on the plane was wonderfully liberating. Having it fit into my purse and knowing it was always available in "downtime" was great as well. Long battery life a major plus. Not having a built-in backlight is a downside for the price. Bought a neophrene cover for protection and that was a good investment as far as keeping the screen clean and unscratched through some rough travels. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. My friends complain that I don't share my completed books with them anymore--downer for them! Reading is back to being an addiction!

I adore my Kindle DX. I was originally torn between the DX and the K2 because of size and weight, but ultimately I decided to go with the DX because I liked the idea of a bigger reading screen, and I loved the native PDF support.
And I haven't regretted it for a moment.
It works exactly as advertised, and I currently have 127 books on my kindle. I travel a LOT for work, so being able to take my entire library with me, and having the ability to get a new book when I'm done with the old one, no matter where I am, has been phenomenal. The selection of Kindle books is huge and growing, and I love that Amazon and publishers offer an ever-changing range of freebies. Granted, most of them are the first in a series, to try and entice you to buy the rest, but I've already discovered some new authors and series I never would have tried otherwise, so it's been a great way to expand my horizons a bit.
The one downside I know most of us worry about is the inability to share Kindle books. I don't have an exact solution for it, but I do have a suggestion. My mother has a K1, bought when they first came out, so we wanted to be able to share books back and forth. We discovered that, while you can't have a kindle registered to two accounts at the same time, you can de-register and register it to another account without any loss of what's already downloaded. So we switched accounts, downloaded one another's books - bought legitimately, and you can have books your purchased on more than one device legally! - then switched back to our own accounts. Now, if you delete it off your Kindle, you would have to go back to the other account to grab it again, and it's NOT a solution to try with someone you don't trust absolutely with access to your account, but for those of you who have a family member who owns a Kindle as well, it is one option for sharing that I thought I would share. Not ideal, but it's better than not being able to share at all. Also, I've read reports that some books have a limit imposed by the publishers as to how many devices any one book can be sent to, so it's not an unlimited option, but again, it is a way to share with a few other trusted people if that's what you're looking for.
Anyway, anyone out there on the fence about the Kindle - it really is fantastic. I'm an avid reader and book lover, and have been since I was a child. I don't miss paper copies at all, as my DX reads exactly like a paperback would, it's lighter, it's more portable, and it holds more than any paper book every could. I highly recommend it to any book lover!
