 "Wife Loves it" 2009-10-08
By Tim Keely (MILPITAS, CA USA)
I made a great hit with my Wife this year with a gift of the DX. It is one of those things in life that you have a hard time thinking back to what it was like before you had it. She loves increasing the text size to read while working out at the gym and there are no issues with breaking a book spine or having to keep the book flat on a treadmill shelf while you read it. My only negative thing to say is for the price, I am surprised they did not provide a slip cover of some kind.

"Great as far as it goes" 2009-10-08
By G. Conway (California)
The Kindle is wonderful for books, but I expecially wanted it for newspapers and it is only so-so. Since it uses Sprint for its downloads, it is not good at all internationally, at least in my recent experience. It was frustrating to have perfect cell phone coverage in a variety of European cities, but none for my newspapers. I also would like to see a format a little closer to newspaper format. Articles come through nicely, but not the boxes that contain weather, sports statistics etc.

For books though, it is great. It is a comforting feeling to travel with a library, so to speak, in your hip pocket.

"I will not buy it until Amazon opens it up" 2009-10-08
By David E. Armstrong (Livingston, MT USA)
I am in the market for a larger reader and I am comparing the DX to Sony's, soon to be released Reader Daily Edition.

I have decided not to buy the DX because of the way Amazon tries to control content. The PDF viewer does not work with full 8 1/2 x 11 pages as they are too hard to read when the DX shrinks them down. You cannot annotate, use links or search the documents and there are no other formats supported.

The DX also does not have an expansion slot. What would that have added to the cost? Perhaps $5?

Last, but probably most important, the DX needs a folder structure.

I am not sure that Amazon reads these review, but stop being so greedy. Open this up to most popular formats, give expansion and fully support PDF documents and you have a winner. Keep you proprietary format forcing me to buy from you and you will not sell to me.

Listening, Amazon?

 "returned product" 2009-10-08
By Gloria J. Mckeague
I returned the DX Kindle. I found it was too heavy and I didn't like when I moved the page turned sideways. Also, I prefer the Kindle 2 with page turners on both sides. The large dispay window was nice. I wish they would get a silencer for the clicking when you turn the page.

 "Exactly as advertized" 2009-10-08
By Trebor (Tennessee)
I am very happy with my Kindle DX. I have owned it for about 6 months now and have read about a dozen books on it and I am now sold on the idea of e-ink. I carefully read through all the specifications for it before I purchased it and I have to say that it is exactly what it is advertised to be. For that reason I have to give it 5 stars. Also I found that by turning off the wireless and the auto rotate feature, the battery lasts a long time. I recommend it without reservation to anyone considering an e-ink reading device.
