I read 2 books a week, and always thought I would stay true to the hard-back, touch-the-pages print version, BUT, as I've bought more and more bookshelves, and stuffed my treasures into every available drawer and cabinet, I've realized something needed to change. I bought the kindle DX to try.......well, I now have 2 SHELVES WORTH of books on my kindle!......2 shelves worth that I can carry around with me where ever I go! I am hooked!
My only complaints are minor, and feel sure will be corrected in later versions. 1. I would like numbered pages, so I can see how far I've read. I remember things by page and side etc, and giving this up is an adjustment. 2. I wish there were color. With color I would collect art books and magazines, but not with the black and white format.
I will still collect my favorite author in hard-back version, but he will also be on my kindle!

I purchased this item as soon as it was available. I hadn't read for quite a while simply because I didn't like carrying around soo much stuff. This item allows me to carrying thousands of books in one device. It works great, charges fast, and I have never had any issues with downloading. I love reading my Kindle DX and haven't regretted the purchase in the slightest bit.

I had this issue of buying books that looked good, but ultimately just sat on my bookshelf with all the other clunky books. Working in IT I carry a laptop and other devices, so carrying a big book around sucked, especially with recent back issues.
Just received my Kindle and I LOVE IT!! I LOVE READING AGAIN!! I can download books, which are even cheaper than the physical book, and sometimes cheaper if not free!!
I never read many newspapers either, actually have been waiting to see when the will ultimately die out. With the Kindle, I can subscribe to most papers accross the US and have them delivered by the time the coffee is brewed.
I help out for 2 years buying one of these and I am happier than ever now.

Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration and had purchased my Kindle DX to help make reading more enjoyable again. This it has done! I fortunately have rather good sight but the wavy line and poor quality print has ruled out paper backs for sometime. I have read eight novels and one auto-biography in a month! Wow! The print is so clear and the type size can be changed and the ability to resize the ability to reduce the number of words on a line have all helped make reading fun again! I have used the text to speech a few times but only for convenience. This feature I expected to use more but have not needed it since the print is so clear.
