 "Worth every penny" 2009-10-10
By MeThinkest (Texas)
Kindle DX is amazing. I love having dozens and dozens of books at my fingertips. It's easy to hold in my hands- no cramping or stiffening (important if you are an arthritis sufferer). It can be propped on your lap on pillows, the arms of chair, or placed in a book holder. I let my Mom try it, she has Multiple Sclerosis, considered quadriplegic, minor gross motor movements, but enough to push the turn paging button. She loves that when she gets tired of reading, she can listen to it. It's lightweight, I can carry it in my purse with me wherever I go. Lighting of the room, unless it's almost dark, doesn't seem to make any difference. I think anyone that is a true book reader and book lover, will love one of these. The only drawback I have is the small buttons at the bottom to do searches with. I can live with that. I recommend this product to everyone I know. I've seen the smaller ones and debated about getting one of those. I have an IPod, I really prefer this bigger size for reading. Easier on the eyes and less page turning. Their customer service has been outstanding, had a little glitch (who knows why), it was no problems and was handled within two days.

To the Kindle People - please put Discover Magazine in your line up. It's an awesome magazine. Great for inquiring minds. Especially those that hope to learn something new everyday.

 "Great Concept, Disappointing Device" 2009-10-09
By A. Rex Rivolo
I love the idea of digital e-paper books - carry your library with you. The DX sold me on the large format and native PDF reader. However, I am totally disappointed with the device. First, after I bought it, I discovered that anything worth reading (for me anyway) either does not exist in the Kindle format or is the same price as the hard copy (c.f. Elementary Methods of Molecular Quantum Mechanics by Valerio Magnasco, $156.00; Numerical Astrophysics by Miyama et al., $218.40; Henri Matisse: A Bio-Bibliography by Russell T. Clement, $123.20). Second, and far more disappointing, is battery life. Despite the advertised time, my Kindle craps out after few hours of use - I do all my reading on airplanes with typical flight times of 8 - 14 hours. So now I find myself carrying the Kindle and a book on every flight - which defeats the main appeal of the Kindle. Maybe, the next generation will have a useful battery life - this one does not. Until then it's just another electronic clunker that will end-up collecting dust on the shelf.

 "Wife Loves it" 2009-10-08
By Tim Keely (MILPITAS, CA USA)
I made a great hit with my Wife this year with a gift of the DX. It is one of those things in life that you have a hard time thinking back to what it was like before you had it. She loves increasing the text size to read while working out at the gym and there are no issues with breaking a book spine or having to keep the book flat on a treadmill shelf while you read it. My only negative thing to say is for the price, I am surprised they did not provide a slip cover of some kind.

"Great as far as it goes" 2009-10-08
By G. Conway (California)
The Kindle is wonderful for books, but I expecially wanted it for newspapers and it is only so-so. Since it uses Sprint for its downloads, it is not good at all internationally, at least in my recent experience. It was frustrating to have perfect cell phone coverage in a variety of European cities, but none for my newspapers. I also would like to see a format a little closer to newspaper format. Articles come through nicely, but not the boxes that contain weather, sports statistics etc.

For books though, it is great. It is a comforting feeling to travel with a library, so to speak, in your hip pocket.
