"I think it is worth it." 2009-10-15
By Danny
To start with I am in Afghanistan supporting our troups. There is not much room here to have books and such. Living quarters are tight. So the Kindle is perfect for here. I got me a DX mainly so I can study. But I have found myself reading regular books.

So here is my review of the Kindle DX.

-- The screen size is a good size.

-- The PDF reader is not the best reader. It has trouble with some pictures. The biggest complaint about the PDF reader is that you cannot change the size of the font. But I have found a small cheat on this. Rotate it to its side and it will enlarge the page. (Ok, not the greatest but it works.)

-- No back light. It would be nice. But not a show stopper.

-- Changing the font size. It is nice on those lazy days (or when the eyes hurt) to make the fonts large.

-- The display is nice and crisp. Easy to read.

-- The text to speech is nice when you have a book you want to read but are to busy to read it with a lot of work. I have put it on the desk and listened to a few books now. No it will not read PDF files.

-- I look at what other people have (book wise) and I am glad that my Kindle is smaller and I have more books than they have.

-- The battery life is great. I charge it every other week.

-- Sometimes I forget that I am reading an ebook and I have found myself trying to reach for a page to change it.

My suggestions to make the Kindle DX better would be.

-- Put a back light in there but make it use an outside power source. This way you do not use up the awesome battery life of the internal battery.

-- To be able to make directories and put books in there, from the menu screen.

Well that is my review. I hope you found it helpful.

I like this product as much as the Kindle 2. I have had no problems using it at all. Thanks for another great product.

 "Kindle DX review" 2009-10-14

I love my new Kindle except for a couple of little problems

1) The auto rotate feature does not work as expected. At times it works perfectly, at other times, the screen does not rotate at all even if I hold it horizontal instead of vertically for prolonged periods of time.

2) Can't see graphs, drawings clearly

3) One of the books I bought was so badly formatted, it was impossible to read - but I am guessing that was a fault with the way the book was converted to digital format and not with the devise itself. Other books I've downloaded are perfect.

"Love it, love it, love it!!!" 2009-10-13

I read 2 books a week, and always thought I would stay true to the hard-back, touch-the-pages print version, BUT, as I've bought more and more bookshelves, and stuffed my treasures into every available drawer and cabinet, I've realized something needed to change. I bought the kindle DX to try.......well, I now have 2 SHELVES WORTH of books on my kindle!......2 shelves worth that I can carry around with me where ever I go! I am hooked!

My only complaints are minor, and feel sure will be corrected in later versions. 1. I would like numbered pages, so I can see how far I've read. I remember things by page and side etc, and giving this up is an adjustment. 2. I wish there were color. With color I would collect art books and magazines, but not with the black and white format.

I will still collect my favorite author in hard-back version, but he will also be on my kindle!

Thanks for this great product!!!!!
