I had this issue of buying books that looked good, but ultimately just sat on my bookshelf with all the other clunky books. Working in IT I carry a laptop and other devices, so carrying a big book around sucked, especially with recent back issues.
Just received my Kindle and I LOVE IT!! I LOVE READING AGAIN!! I can download books, which are even cheaper than the physical book, and sometimes cheaper if not free!!
I never read many newspapers either, actually have been waiting to see when the will ultimately die out. With the Kindle, I can subscribe to most papers accross the US and have them delivered by the time the coffee is brewed.
I help out for 2 years buying one of these and I am happier than ever now.

Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with Macular Degeneration and had purchased my Kindle DX to help make reading more enjoyable again. This it has done! I fortunately have rather good sight but the wavy line and poor quality print has ruled out paper backs for sometime. I have read eight novels and one auto-biography in a month! Wow! The print is so clear and the type size can be changed and the ability to resize the ability to reduce the number of words on a line have all helped make reading fun again! I have used the text to speech a few times but only for convenience. This feature I expected to use more but have not needed it since the print is so clear.

I purchased the Kindle DX at Amazon for my wife who has some vision imparement. Not being technically endowed I had problems re-registering the Kindle from my account to my wife's. I called the "help" telephone number - got right through - spoke with a real live person who patiently tried to walk me through. My fingers, not being very ninble kept hitting the wrong keys. Finally he offered to do it all for me from his end. Zip, zip and the changed information poped up on the kindle in my lap. From there, the rest is easy. A fantastic piece of technology!

I bought my DX by mistake. In a fit of needing material for a project RIGHT NOW, I ordered one. I was disappointed that the "how to" books which I wanted were not available. I put the Kindle aside and bought the books I needed the old fashioned way (on line). Having made the investment, I decided I should try the thing out. Whoa! This thing is GOOD. Never again do I have to go into a rage at being forced to wait for someone while they take their time puttering. Never again will I be stuck in a situation sleepless or bored.
My first trial was while I was cruising on a private yacht. Fortunately I had loaded up a couple of good books which I enjoyed but then I discovered the Kindle was out of range to get new material.I was again disappointed. Then suddenly, we were back in American waters and I was able to get the New Yorker and all sorts of wonderful things. My fellow sailers were intrigued. I could have sold many kindles (maybe i did).
It's a good time to be alive.

I LOVE the Kindle DX. It is light and very convenient to use. I love all its features especially the bookmark feature. When my classes start I look forward to putting my textbooks on the Kindle.
