"great reader, could use more books available and some usability tweaks" 2009-10-30
By debrrose (here)
I have lots of books - my main furniture consists of bookcases - and I read things until the covers fall off. I love the idea of putting all the books onto one device, sort of a giant ipod for books. Too bad many of my favorite authors don't seem to be available yet in electronic form... hopefully they will come along soon.

My friend gave me this for my birthday (expensive gift! hugz to you if you ever see this!)and I love it!

My son keeps eyeing it and wanting one, so it has the 'cool' factor.

I have two little tiny things that bug me on the Usability front, because I notice such things. First, because my hands are small I keep hitting the menu button with my thunb while reading a book. Ease of reach is important, avoiding inadvertent actuation of controls is also important. If the buttons were further in from the edge this would not be a problem. Second, also probably because my hands are not huge, I hold it below the halfway balnce point, which makes it slightly top heavy. If you don't read much this isn't a factor, but if you read for hours then the thumb and wrist tendons become fatigued. This could be alleviated with a weight in the lower part of the case, or by changing the balance point. Ergonomics are a factor here and of course the design has to accommodate users from the small end of the spectrum to the large end. However, since the balance point is exactly the middle, I suspect that no deliberate change was made to the design for this issue.

All in all, I love this and use it all the time. Looking forward to more titles!

 "this works great" 2009-10-30
By Richard L. Houck (davis, ca)
this works exactly as advertised, i really like it. i am glad i purchased the dx, it fits me perfectly i worried about it being to big but not so. my only worry is it is hard to share a book with a friend, that is a real bummer. there are some books that are not on kindle and that is dissapointing. i am in brazil for part of every year and it is nice to be able to load it up and read what i want when i want.

I had a problem with the audio in my DX. When I called the support line I got an off shore

teck who spoke heavily accented english. It took 15 minetss and another teck to fix a 30 second problem. I think with the cost of a Kindle, Amazon could aford USA tecks. Other then this miner problem my kindle is great.
