My experience with the Kindle DX has been WONDERFUL. It is sooo easy to read, light and easy to carry. I think the leather cover has been indispensable; I don't think I would have quite as much fun without it as it provides structure for propping the book up in various positions. The extras are fun to play with, e.g. the experimental text reader. The larger DX size is perfect for me as I have to make the text a bit larger these days ;-). I am looking forward to more publishers agreeing to make their books e-friendly. If there is one additional feature I would like, it would be back lighting for reading by the campfire and/or in bed.

I love my Kindle if you told me I would be reading from an electronic pad 20 years ago i would think you were watching to much Star Trek but it is weonderful and I have not found any where i can not use it. In fact i am buying one for my husband so he will stop downloading his maps onto mine.

I bought the Kindle DX over a month ago and I am loving it. I was worried that after the excitement of having a new gadget wore off I wouldn't use it as much. But the more I use it the more I enjoy it. I love being able to look up definitions of words while I am reading. I also love the free wikipedia the kindle comes with so I can research the places or things the book I'm reading talks about. I was also worried about download time an ablity since I live in a small town, but the kindle still delivers books in under 60 seconds, its great. I do wish it were possible to share books with others, but still I would definitely recommend a kindle to anyone who loves to read.

-Pros
I like it a lot, it is my first Kindle of any kind and it works pretty much they way the claim it should. Most books are delivered relatively quickly, with the exception of one very large book I purchased (book was originally several books). All books I have purchased and received via whisper net have been place on my Kindle DX within just a few minutes.
E ink - I spend a lot of time on a computer, being able to go read my texts and pdf files in a recliner or where ever I choose is very nice. It is also a lot less strenuous on my eyes. I found after hours of reading on a computer monitor I would get a headache. The E ink technology really seems to be no more strain on my eyes than reading a book.
Most pdf can be viewed straight as but those that where made as scanned images or something like that may need some work to be easily read, especially if it was two pages scanned into one like many cases I read for my classes. However, I find with a bit of pdf knowledge any pdf can be viewed on it with a decent picture. (This may mean modifying or changing the pdf before placing it on the Kindle DX - I also prefer landscape mode for viewing them, since there is no other way to enlarge them, but portrait mode can be read)
Basic internet feature is nice. If you can view pages with most phones with internet features, the Kindle DX should view it as well.
The shades of gray do wonderful job with pictures. I feared they just wouldn't do some justice to some of my color heavy pdf files, but so far for black and white the Kindle DX is giving me really great picture quality.
On a personal note I love to read and had all but quite reading for personal pleasure. For about the past five years all my reading has been for classes or work. I found little time for personal reading. Since I have gotten the Kindle DX my personally reading has jumped up 100%. I have often had the need to carry my class or work reading with me.
It is easy to carry all those materials and personal books now and I can read for personal reasons here and there.

Of course every one says this but price is a bit high. I can purchase a net book (mini computer) for about the same price.
PDF support is slim - it is just a basic pdf viewer with no zooming or moving around on a pdf page.
Amazon claims Kindle DX is for students yet I have e-books for class that are done in pdf. To access these books you must input a user name and password. Even through Kindle DX has the ability to access the web you can not input any information on the fields of the pdf so if you have pdf school books like this you will need to find another way to view them on the Kindle DX.
Keyboard, I found it easy to use but it would be nice to have a number lock button. Pushing in and holding the up arrow to select multiple numbers can be a bit tricky.

Rotating Display - this is actually a pro thing but the automatic portion of this feature seems a bit buggy to me. Some times it seems to flip pages to another direction when it shouldn't and other times it takes an unusually amount of time to realize that you have flipped the orientation of the Kindle DX. I personally like this feature and use it a lot for pdf enlargement but I generally just set it manually so I don't have the hassle of it flipping when I don't want it to.
Speed - this isn't really a pro or con so I placed it here. The Kindle DX is not lightning fast, yet its not supper slow. The slow speeds are loading up pdf files and accessing the internet but really its not that slow and this is NOT a computer, it's a simple e-reader. I personally think the Kindle DX speed for the most part is more than acceptable for the kind of device that it is.
Black and white - would love color for pdf files. But hey can't have it all I suppose.
Closing comment
This is a very long review but I was trying to be complete and it is a $400.00 dollar item. I hope this helps someone, as I spent countless hours researching e-readers before making my decision and some of my observations I shared here where not fully answered elsewhere. I like my Kindle DX very much and am very content with the purchase of it. The only reason I put 4 starts instead of 5 is because of Amazons claims of text book support and my issues with accessing pdf files that need the use of user name and password and of course its price.
